On May 7 the Bleeding Ulcers started a winning streak that came within a hair of tying the league record of 20 games. They went 19-1 from May 7 to May 28. They'd won 16 straight before starting a 4-game set with the mighty Markham Squeeze. The Ulcers took three of four from Kosowan's boys, but they dropped game 1 when the bullpen gave up three late runs in what was a deadlocked Lance Lynn-Robbie Ray pitching duel. Over the 20 games the Ulcers outscored opponents 133-63, and carried a team ERA of a cool 2.75. Close but no cigar.
