On Aug 26, in the top of the 8th inning in a 3-3 tie, pitcher Andres Munoz hit pinch hitter Mike Ford. Ford charged the mound and attacked Munoz which caused the benches to clear and a brawl to ensue. Munoz left the game with a 32 day injury and Whalers pitcher Josiah Gray who had left the dug out, suffered a 27 day injury while Ford was ejected from the game. To add insult to injury, both base runners that were on base scored later in the inning giving Munoz the loss while he was in the trainer's room.
Two days later on Aug 28, Jon Gray was pitching for Gaetti and he hit Lane Thomas. Thinking this was payback for Ford being hit two days earlier, Thomas charged the mound to try to get some payback of his own. Ironically, Andrew Abbott who had been the starting pitcher for Gaetti in the Aug 26 game, was injured for 34 days in the latest melee.
The teams ended their series on Aug 29 and even though Luke Raley was hit in the 6th inning of that game and there were some tensions, it didn't escalate beyond that.
