It's not very often that a 100 inning pitcher should be considered for the top pitching award in the league...but Jacob deGrom had a special season even though he had limited innings.
deGrom had numbers that were the envy of any pitcher in the league. See some of deGrom's numbers compared to the #1 pitcher on the leader board for these categories (in brackets):
1.52 ERA (1.73)
4.7 Hits/9 (6.1)
6.6 Runners/9 (8.
14.2 K's/9 (12.1)
.455 OPS (.527)
8.3 K's/Walk (6.6) That was 158 K's versus 19 walks
1.38 RC ERA (2.14)
Also deGrom won Pitcher of The Week 3 times and also won Picher of the Month for April. In an April no decision he threw 10 innings of no hit ball and followed that up in his next start with a complete game 1-0 shut out.
If you are a "slash" guy and love to see the low numbers, keep him in mind even though he obviously didn't throw a whole season...
